The authorities from Kazakhstan will give Romania all the support to secure the supply of oil and derived products, the Minister of Energy, Virgil Popescu, who is in Kazakhstan, wrote on Facebook on Friday.

“Together with Bolat Akchulakov, the Minister of Energy from the Republic of Kazakhstan, in the capacity of co-presidents, today I presided over the work of the 16th session of the Romanian-Kazakh Intergovernmental Commission. During the plenary session, I signed the documents by which we agreed agreement to intensify bilateral and commercial relations between the two states, in several essential fields. We will collaborate in the field of energy and, at the same time, we received assurances that we will have all the support to secure the supply of oil and derived products,” Popescu said, according to Agerpres.

Cooperation in energy, economy, trade and investments, transport, agriculture, environmental protection and the financial sector was also discussed.

“We conveyed that our country wants to expand cooperation with Kazakhstan and act to strengthen commercial, investment and economic relations, especially by encouraging mutual participation in investments in joint projects and by organizing and attracting companies in business forums from both countries, for promoting the economic climate and cooperation opportunities,” the government official added.

For his part, Magzum Mirzagaliyev, CEO of Kazakhstan’s KazMunayGas (KMG) assured the Romanian minister that the Kazakh company will continue to supply the Petromidia refinery as before, according to a press release quoted by Interfax.

“This year marks 15 years since KazMunayGas bought Rompetrol, now called KMG International. This acquisition and subsequent investments in Rompetrol remain our country’s largest investment so far outside its borders. We are closely watching the development of Rompetrol and look these assets as having strategic importance,” said Mirzagaliyev.

The parties discussed cooperation in the segment of refining and production of oil and oil products, the supply of crude oil to the KMG refineries in Romania, possibilities for their development and the reduction of carbon emissions.
