We need green and affordable hydrogen, but also energy from renewable sources and with low carbon emissions, the two sources being complementary, said on Tuesday the Minister of Energy, Virgil Popescu, emphasizing that clear rules are needed for the development of the hydrogen market.
The Minister participated in the first session of the Council of Ministers of Energy, during which the general approach to the gas and hydrogen package was discussed, which includes a proposal for a directive and a proposal for a regulation on the common rules of the internal market for natural gas and hydrogen.
“Romania appreciates the efforts of the EU Council presidency on this legislative package, regarding the transport, supply and storage of natural gas and hydrogen-based gases. It is very important that the member states have the necessary tools to protect consumers. We need clear rules for the development of the hydrogen market,” said Popescu, according to Agerpres.
“Romania has always supported a technologically neutral approach to the production of green hydrogen. We need green and affordable hydrogen, but also energy from renewable sources and with low carbon emissions. The two sources of energy are not in competition, but complementary. All solutions must be complementary when designing hydrogen roadmaps and policies with the 2030 goals in mind, and it is very important to be able to use all low-carbon energy sources. We are ready to have a constructive approach,” Virgil Popescu said in his speech, according to a post on his Facebook page.
The Minister of Energy is in Brussels, at the meeting of the Transport, Telecommunications and Energy Council.
