Mihai Tudose stepped down his post as Prime Minister, after the Social Democratic Party leadership decided to withdraw its political support. The members of the PSD leaders accused Mihai Tudose of failing to present an analysis for 2017 achievements and for not initiate measures for 2018 at the beginning of the year, but especially that he had had public positions against other party colleagues in the government.

PSD leaders will reunite on Tuesday to nominate a third prime minister from the PSD-ALDE alliance after Sorin Grindeanu (January 2017) and Mihai Tudose (June 2017). In both cabinets, the Minister of Energy was Toma Petcu, a representative from ALDE.

It is still unclear whether President Klaus Iohannis will accept a new nomination from this alliance as in October 2017 he said: “If this government were to fall, then I would have to ask, in a very serious way, whether PSD has the ability to govern”.

Labor Minister Olguţa Vasilescu, PSD vice-president, announced that if the president did not accept as PM the person nominated by the majority PSD-ALDE, the two parties “would take all steps to suspend Klaus Iohannis”.
